At EPIC Outreach, we believe that healing is possible—for animals, for people, and for the world we share. Every day on the farm, we witness small miracles unfold in the most tender and beautiful ways. One of those miracles is named PATCHES.
PATCHES was found abandoned at an animal control facility in a rural community. He had been discarded—unloved, forgotten, and overlooked. Like so many animals who end up in the system, he was just another number. But to us, he was someone. And he deserved more.
When PATCHES arrived at the sanctuary, something magical began to happen. At first, he was timid, unsure, and hesitant to trust. But with time, space, and gentle care, PATCHES found what every heart—animal or human—longs for: safety, love, and connection.
Today, PATCHES is a thriving, happy pig. He has not only healed physically but emotionally as well. He adores belly rubs, greets visitors with a wagging tail (yes, pigs wag their tails when they’re happy!), and has become a favorite among the kids who visit the farm.
He’s an incredible ambassador for kindness, showing guests that pigs are not only intelligent but deeply emotional beings who crave love and friendship—just like us. His story reminds us that when we offer compassion, we create the space for true transformation.
August is National Wellness Month, and while many focus on self-care in human terms, we know that wellness extends to all living beings. PATCHES’ journey is a beautiful example of what can happen when someone is simply given a chance.
Here at EPIC Outreach, we don’t just rescue animals—we help them begin again. The sanctuary is a space of rest, renewal, and rediscovery. And as animals like PATCHES heal, so do the people who meet them.
Whether it’s a child learning about empathy for the first time or a volunteer finding peace after a hard week, the ripple effects of kindness reach far beyond the pasture. So this month, we invite you to pause and ask yourself:
Where in my life can I plant a seed of kindness?
Because healing doesn’t always start with a grand gesture—it often starts with a simple act of love.
